Skills and Experience:

At the age of 12, Marie Sgouros co-founded, with her twin sister, a program to teach Burmese refugee children English and American Culture in Maryland. She received her Girl Scout Gold Award with this program while coordinating with the International Rescue Committee, a refugee humanitarian-aid organization. The program, English Kids to Kids and Bridging Cultures, (EK2K & BC), has been running for five years now. Marie has acquired teaching skills, business skills, speaking skills, and networking skills from developing EK2K & BC. In 2012, Ms. Sgouros went to Capitol Hill to present her program to Girl Scouts and congressmen. Ms. Sgouros interned with her local county government for the 2014-15 school year to research the resources available for immigrants and refugees in her county. Most recently, she interned with her US Congressman during the 2015 summer.
